Great Southern coffee is blooming

We've witnessed the Great Southern coffee scene go from strength to strength over the past five or so years.

Coffee shops are looking for a point of difference, baristas are more skilled, and most importantly the quality of coffee available to coffee lovers has improved out of sight.

Whilst we can't take all the credit, as Albany's first specialty coffee roaster and founder of the Albany Barista Academy we like to think we have pushed things along a little.

If you're visiting the Great Southern region we encourage you to explore the local coffee scene and discover not only great coffee, but some amazing cafe locations too. Here are just a few recommendations:

Better known for it's quality wines, you might be surprised to hear that Plantagenet Wines is also serving up specialty coffee at its Mount Barker cellar door, along with a small but tasty food menu. It's the perfect coffee stop to break up the long drive from and to Perth.

In Albany, Teede & Co. is a weekday favourite among local CBD workers, tucked away in Shopper's Arcade at the top of York Street. Their lunchboxes are a hit and the coffee is super consistent featuring our Red Letter Blend.

Down on Stirling Terrace you will find a neat walk-up coffee shop called Taxi Stand Coffee Bar. Open 7 days, it's always a good Sunday option and there is a broad coffee menu featuring their own blend, single origins and batch brew.

Albany Farmer's Market is a must on Saturdays and here you will meet Leigh, one of Albany's finest baristas serving espresso from his renovated horse float! Local dairy Yard 86 are also on hand with their gently pasteurised milk and they have the best bottled iced coffee in town, using our local roast.

A bit further east, Little Beach Store is well worth a visit en-route to Albany's iconic Little Beach. Here you will find quality meals and expertly made coffee, together with plenty of wildlife for the kids on the large acreage.

For a fine dining experience you can't go past the all new Monty's Leap in Kalgan. A contemporary lunch menu can be enjoyed whilst taking in the stunning valley views over the vineyard. A quality espresso or affogato is a nice way to finish your meal.

Over in Denmark, the newly built Reminisce Cafe has prime location on the Denmark Rivermouth with views across the ocean. It's situated on the waters edge in the caravan park and offers plenty of food and drink options for the whole family.

Monkey Rock Winery is also a must visit on the way to Greens Pool. This boutique vineyard produces some amazing preservative free wines and ciders. We are also delighted that they are using our coffee to make a preservative free coffee liqueur that is to die for!

That's just a start, so get out there and enjoy a Great Southern coffee experience.
